August 2015: AKATI Consulting Organised Humanitarian Care Programme

19th August 2015, Kuala Lumpur – The students from the Dar Zayed Higher Organisation  of the United Arab Emirates, recently participated in a 2-week Humanitarian Care Student Visit Programme co-organised by AKATI Consulting Sdn Bhd and Active Mind Limited. This student visit program comprised many interactive courses, field visits, hands-on work and trips to facilitate an all round experience and knowledge of technology, communication Malaysian culture and lifestyle.

Mind Development Classes
The programme began with an English Communication class which encouraged the students to speak with confidence. The students were trained on several areas ranging from communicating with an acquaintance to delivering effective presentations.

The next was the IT Security Awareness & Social Engineering class which was conducted at the Asia Pacific University (APU) Technology Park Malaysia. AKATI Consulting Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Krishna Rajagopal conducted the IT security awareness session while the Social Engineering session  was conducted by Mr. Naavin Vashudave of Cyber Intelligence. These two cyber security professionals edified the students on various fundamental yet important aspects of cyber security.  The Zayed Higher Organization got the opportunity to attend the class with the local students of Asia Pacific University and interact with them.

One of the most interesting classes was the Creative Thinking Programme is a program which was designed to bring out creative talent of the students. This one-day creative camp included several activities - 'Rocket balloon' where students learnt the simple logic of flights, energy and creative designs; 'i-Sketch' a technique used to translate imagination into sketches and brief descriptions and entrepreneurial skills where students were given the chance to pitch their ideas.

The Lego Robotics Program was also a practical session conducted by Creative Minds Robotics Centre. Here, the students were tasked to build a robot that is capable of driving around an obstacle course. Students embraced this opportunity to develop their creative and technological skills.

Educational Factory Visits
Besides classes and in-class learning programmes, the students also were taken on factory visits. The first visit was to the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS), the central government agency for the film industry of Malaysia. The FINAS is similar to the Motion Picture Association of America in the United States. Students were excited to learn film development and Audio Engineering techniques with professional at FINAS.

The students were then taken to the Royal Selangor, Malaysia pewter manufacturer and retailer, known to be the largest of its type in the world. Founded in 1885 by Yong Koon, this shop Ngeok Foh (Jade Peace) produced handcrafted pewter objects mainly for ceremonial use. Students experienced a cultural aspect of Malaysia by visiting this shop and were allowed to work on some pewter products themselves.

To add even more variation and technological knowledge to the visits, DENSO, an industry specialist in high quality and technologically advanced automotive components was chosen. The DENSO Group has established its forte in the production of engine-related, electronics and body-related products since 1949. The students were exposed to operational processes of this factory including mechanisms of the machinery used.

The students were thrilled to have visited these three factories in completely different fields as it tapped into their inner creativity and gave them the opportunity to get a glimpse of how different industries operate.

Visits to Tourist Destinations
The next phase of the programme involved visiting beautiful tourist destinations in Malaysia. The first trip was made to Bukit Tinggi which is a small town in the Bentong district of Pahang, Malaysia. Bukit Tinggi is located an hour from the Kuala Lumpur City centre and lies some 2,500 feet above sea level.

The next destination travelled was the new King’s Palace (Istana Negara) located at Jalan Duta and the National Monument. As the ' Istana Negara 'is the residence of the King, students were only able to catch a glimpse of the magnificent and ostentatious complex along Jalan Duta from outside its entrance gates. The National Monument is the world's tallest bronze freestanding sculpture grouping. This commemorates those who died in Malaysia's struggle for freedom, during World War II and the Malayan Emergency, which lasted from 1948 until 1960.

The students were also taken to visit the National Mosque of Malaysia, located in Kuala Lumpur. Then, at the National Museum (Muzium Negara) students learnt a great deal about the heritage and culture of Malaysia.

Lastly, the students visited the Batu Caves (a limestone hill that has a series of caves and cave temples in the Gombak district) and the Petrosains Science Discovery Centre.

The students got much opportunity to bond and network during these trips as well as during the sports and social activities held afterwards. These activities included an orphanage visit, bowling, Futsall (Indoor Football with locals) and Port Dickson Beach Trip to encourage team building. The activities ended with a lot of fun at the Sunway Lagoon Theme Park.

The students of Zayed Higher Organisation were very happy to have participated in this educational, interactive and enjoyable visit. The programme ended with an awards ceremony and farewell.
