February 2018: Fortune 500 Credentials Leaked in Massive Amount

Hi folks,

Working in a Fortune 500 company is something that can make anyone proud. But, being part of the Fortune 500 employees' leaked credentials would make any of us worried.

A study by credential monitoring firm, VeriCloud, found that an average of 10% of all Fortune 500 employees' email credentials had been leaked in data breaches. More so, the top three industry sectors that are found in the leak were Telecommunications (23%), Energy (18%) and Financials (17%). It was also found that many uses weak passwords, with the largest being under Computers and Office Equipment and 17.6% under Transportation were found to be in the top 100,000 most common passwords.

Among the solutions suggested are to implement multi-factor authentication in all organizational third-party infrastructure, software, and platform service accounts. Aside from that, for individual level, awareness among users on the importance of good password policy should be increased. Finally, enforcing regulatory compliance can help ensure minimal data exposure in case of breaches.
