February 2018: Your Apps Need Patching due to Electron Vulnerability

13-Electron.png#asset:2902

Hi folks,

Do you use Skype, Visual Studio, Twitch, WordPress? Then this news might need your attention as these apps that use Electron Framework, of which (the framework) it is found to be vulnerable recently.

The Electron Framework, created by GitHub, aimed to aid the development of Atom source code editor and is popularly used as it allowed creation of cross-platform applications using basic web technologies.

Currently, there is an RCE bug affecting Electron software framework, which allows attackers to remotely execute malicious code. But it is affecting only Windows apps, not Mac nor Linux.

Thankfully, the developers of Electron had created patches for it. So, the only thing needed to be done is for the app developers to incorporate the Electron fixes in their apps and for the user to apply the latest patches.

For the apps that cannot be updated to the new Electron framework code, they were provided with a temporary workaround. Aside from that, Windows itself added support for detecting attempts to exploit the flaws through Windows Defender Security Center.

Find out the listed apps that requires patches here: https://www.bleepingcomputer.c...
